What is Soy Wax?

Soy wax is made from soybean oil. The soybeans are first cleaned, then cracked and de-hulled. The next step is to roll the soybeans into flakes. Once that's done, the flakes are put through a machine that extracts the oil from them. The oil is then hydrogenated, which means that some of the fatty acids are turned from unsaturated to saturated.

Why choose Soy Wax?

Here are a number of reasons why we choose Soy Wax over Paraffin wax:-

  • Soy wax burns up to 50% longer than paraffin wax.
  • Soy wax has clean burning and releases no known carcinogens when it is burnt.
  • Soy wax creates a healthier ‘wax pool’ around the wick, allowing the fragrance oils to more easily vaporise and release more fragrance.
  • Soybeans are an environmentally friendly, sustainable and renewable resource.
  • Soy wax is easier to clean up - Any spills are much easier to get out of fabrics or table cloths as it is biodegradable, with a simple wipe it's gone.
  • Soy wax burns clean - This means minimal soot is released when burning soy wax candles.

Did you know that Soy Wax has a Memory?!

If you put out your candle before the wax has a chance to melt all the way across, any future melt pools will stop at the first one. The size of the melt pool affects how much fragrance is released, so make sure to burn your candle for long enough each time so the melt pool reaches the edge of the glass.

What is the 'frosting' type surface on the top of my candle?

When it comes to soy candles, frosting is the natural result of crystal growth from the vegetable oils used. It's also a good way for customers to tell that the candles are made with 100% pure and natural soy. Some fragrances are more likely than others to cause frosting, but it's perfectly normal for natural wax candles (especially soy ones). There's no need to worry about it, and it doesn't affect how the candle burns.
